Chambon leads as World Supersport returns at Brands

With the silly season – the time when rider’s chase rides for next year – in full swing already it’s easy for a rider to take his mind off the job. It’s also a time when some riders put on performances far and away better than anything they’ve done all season, the so-called contract time rides! But you can’t accuse Stephane Chambon of pulling out a contract ride as he pushed his way to the provisional pole in the first Supersport timed qualifying session, he’s been doing it all season!

Chambon’s time of 1′29.473 was enough to put him on provisional pole ahead of Saturday’s final qualifying session. He’ll have to work hard on Saturday to keep hold of pole as throughout the session riders were pushing hard to grab that pole from the diminutive Frenchman.

Many riders tried to topple Chambon but none could budge him. Instead they all had to be content with fighting over second place, with Fabien Foret and Paolo Casoli both occupying provisional second on the grid before Christophe Cogan came along to make second on the grid his – for today at least. Casoli ended the session in third, the lone Italian in an otherwise all French front row after Foret nabbed provisional fourth.

British rider James Whitham is provisional fifth in front of Katsuaki Fujiwara. Scotland’s Iain MacPherson is seventh with reigning champion Andrew Pitt taking the final place on the provisional second row.
