WSB Press conference.

At the World Superbike press conference this morning ( 24.05.2001 ), riders met journalists before embarking on a round of golf in Derbyshire, with Honda rider Colin Edwards expressing the psychological need for a break from intense competition;

`Racing is great, but you need a break from it which is why today is nice ( pro-celebrity golf match ) because it isn’t all about being a fruitcake, a bit of a retard. ‘ said the current WSB champ.

Both Edwards, team-mate Okada, Troy Corser, Neil Hodgson and John Reynolds were at the press breakfast, with wild card rider Reynolds not too optimistic about his chances;

` I don’t really get on too well with Donington, ‘ said the BSB and WSB veteran, ` it is a very hard circuit to win on, for me at least. Our main priority obviously is to win the BSB title, but I’ll be trying my best for the home crowd for sure.’

Fellow Brit Neil Hodgson on the other hand seemed well up for the win at Donington, especially as his season has got off to a patchy start;

` The season has been pretty terrible so far, ‘ said Hodgson, `and in one sense I’ve got nothing nothing to lose by going all out at my home track - so I will. I’d like to thank all the Brit fans who have turned out to support me in the rounds so far - I’m gonna try not to let them down.’

Free practice is tomorrow at Donington, with Superpole on Saturday and racing starting at noon on Sunday - the weather forecast is not good by the way, with rain on the cards…doh!
