A Good Day’s Work At Thruxton

A good day’s work at Thruxton
Thruxton is a track of mixed fortunes for me. It was my very first, but somewhat short-lived, win at BSB a few years back.
I’d set pole, won the race, only to be penalised for ‘forceful’ riding. I was racing at the time, not so sure what the others were there for then, but that was then, this is now.
Thruxton, in case you don’t know, is the fastest track on the calendar. You are scraping your knee and almost your elbow at speeds which would scare the spikes off a cactus, you have to in order to maintain the momentum for the next fast section of the track.
The weather was not making life too easy for us, it was really cold and most of the time was wet, but the bike was pretty good in the wet anyway, no, let me re-write that, it was unbelievably good in the wet.
Come the race, it was dry and I came home in 9th place. I would have liked to have taken a few more places during the race, but 9th is better than a fastest lap and a lot of gravel rash with nothing to show for it, so we were happy enough.
Oulton Park next and that is a track which should be good for me. I won last year, the first major win for an MV in Britain in more years that I’ve been alive, so now it’s time to do the same again and repay the trust I have from the team, Suzuki and Carole Nash.
Hope to see you there…
