My new book, Parallel Coast, is connected to the last round the world expedition by the word ‘Parallel’ because this is how I see my life. It is split into two - fast slow, intense and frivolous, historical and yet also contemporary. Firstly I love biking so much I feel a real need to push the envelope about what riding is all about.
Some readers may find my historical references unusual and even out of context with a bike journey, but that’s only because it hasn’t been done before. I might get it right, I might get it wrong, but what I won’t do is presume an audience cannot be flexible enough to try something new. My writing and thinking is based on 30 years of adventuring and a great deal of reading and research. Everything changes and so does motorcycle literature. If you like it, fantastic, if you don’t get it, stick with it, it’s an acquired taste…!
