Said Goodbye to Badadir
Rode out of Istanbul and said goodbye to Bahadir. He had set me up with three bike mags and started off a big chat about maybe dubbing my next film into Turkish. It wouldn’t be a money-spinner but that wasn’t the crack, it was just a cool way to make some extra pocket money for whatever trip came next.
Right now, I was on the motorway out of town. 200kms and £1.50 toll. The road surface was good, traffic getting lighter the further away I was from Istanbul and whilst the weather was wet earlier on, it soon became sunny without being hot.
I parked up by a hotel on the motorway with every intention of camping, but I needed to get another podcast done. I chose to do a review film because that was how I was feeling. I wasn’t homesick, because I haven’t yet called the kids. In any case, their mum is in the process of moving house and she’s in a hideaway deep in a Welsh valley without a phone.
It was easy to forget how many people have come into the project and we are a fraction of the way through. I don’t really feel it’s started yet because it has been a bit easy. That’s daft when you think about it. Why should something have more worth because it’s hard to get? What if it comes along easily, doesn’t that have worth too?
After six circumnavigations it’s inevitable that a journey gets easier, BUT, like Parkinson’s Law, you just start doing harder projects, and this project is going to get very hard indeed.
