Bike Trac online motorcycle tracker
Following the release of the Carole Nash 2010 Theft Survey, Managing Director of the Road Angel Group, Graham Mackie, is encouraging UK bikers to help protect themselves from potential thieves with the Group’s newest innovation, Bike Trac.
The device promises to help combat motorcycle theft and provide added peace of mind for riders – and their families – when they are on or off their bikes. London postcodes occupy seven of the top ten hotspots for UK bike theft and North London was identified as the worst hit with more than four times the national average bike theft rate.
Halifax, Aberdeen and Manchester were the only three locations outside of London to make it into the top ten rankings for bike theft, while Cardiff was the only region in Wales to record a bike theft rate above the UK average – making Bike Trac a sound investment opportunity for the cities’ two-wheel enthusiasts.
The pioneering, Thatcham-approved tracking device, designed exclusively for the two-wheel industry, is a discreet on-board motion detection unit suitable for all types of power two wheelers, which monitors any unusual movements. The clever accessory can detect whether a bike is moving and alerts the rider within a couple of minutes by text or email.
Bike Trac has an easy to use internet portal that is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, which enables individuals to check the current location of their motorcycle. Using the online portal, motorcyclists can track journeys from the past three months and view aerial photography, details on mileage, speed and location from those trips for Bike Trac members to share with friends and family.
The unit costs £299 at retail with an additional small monthly subscription for access to the online tracking portal – a small price to pay for peace of mind. The device is registered to the individual rider rather than bike, so can be transferred when the rider changes bike.
“The Carole Nash annual survey results demonstrate a stark reality for bikers and validates the increasing need for riders to use a security device like Bike Trac,” says Graham Mackie. “While Bike Trac cannot stop motorcycles being targeted by thieves, it can aid a speedier and more effective recovery process and provide peace of mind.”
