Dunlop D211 Sportmax tyre

Dunlop UK are launching a new tyre at the International Motorcycle Show 2009, sponsored by Carole Nash Insurance.

The Sportmax GP Racer D211 Dunlop road tyre has been developed using lessons learned on track. Dunlop have achieved 165 podium finishes in Moto GP, BSB, WSB and many other motorcycle road racing events, with the D211 race tyre.

The roadgoing D211 rear tyre features seven zones of variable tyre compound, which maximises grip in most road and trackday situations. Dunlop’s D211 offers excellent side grip whilst leaned over, good traction during acceleration and rapid warm-up on those crucial early sighting laps. Meanwhile the front D211 has three separate compound zones, with braking and cornering made more secure by the tyre’s design and construction.

Interestingly, the new D211 uses NTEC technology, which allows the rear tyre to run at very low pressures. The rear D211 for example can run at 17psi, which you would never do with most tyres on the track, or road. Dunlop aren’t saying how this low pressure can be achieved without the tyre moving on the rim, breaking the seal, or distorting under drive, but the launch at the NEC motorcycle show should reveal more details.

The D211 will also be available with a slick racing tread pattern, aimed at regular trackday enthusiasts. It will go on sale in January 2010. Sizes are all on 17 inch rims, with a 120/70 being the only front size and 180-200/55 in the rear. There are three general wear compounds too; soft, medium and endurance.

Dunlop haven’t mentioned which stand they are on at the NEC show, but we’d say a stroll around the MCN Sport section should track `em down.
