Fancy a helmet for £4100?
No we don’t either, but Ruby Atelier of France must be hopeful that someone with more money than sense will buy a limited edition, Karl Lagerfeld Ruby open face, covered in mink at a whopping 4545 euros. Yes, that’s right, it isn’t just ridiculously expensive, it will get you attacked in the street by furious animal rights activists too.
There are cheaper, and more animal-friendly, options in the Ruby Lagerfeld range, to tickle the fancy of fashionista motorcycle and scooter owners from Barcelona to Barnsley. For example, the Ruby Pavilion lid finished in black and white tweed is a mere 1200 euros and there are 100 signed examples available. Bargain.
Feeling more discerning? A Ruby Pavilion with white rabbit fur on it is a more plutocratic 2730 euros. Bear in mind that the rabbit-skinned skidlids are available in a signed run of just 12 examples, so exclusivity is guaranteed. You won’t see some pie-munching, 18-stone Bandit owner called Kev sporting one of these beauties down on Mablethorpe prom.
Our favourite Ruby Lagerfeld lid here at insidebikes is the Terracotta model, hand-embroidered with pearls. Again just 12 being made and retailing at 3820 euros, it’s another truly exclusive accessory. We think that the matching scarf, which features a drawing of an `ideal Ruby woman’, penned by the legendary catwalk King, Karl Lagerfeld himself, for a trifling 140 euros, would truly finish off the rider’s travel ensemble.
Sadly, Ruby haven’t bothered including any helmet sizes, or safety information in the press release, so we have no idea whether rabbit fur, tweed, or pearls would help save your skull from fracturing in an accident. Perhaps SHARP will announce test results on mink-coated helmets next year. We can only pray for that day to happen.
