The Kawasaki ER5 has been one of the most successful budget commuter bikes of the last decade, and although it’s been replaced by the ER6 in the Kawasaki line-up, the ER5 is still used by many novice riders, training schools, despatch riders and those who simply want a fun, 500cc twin for commuting to work. However, the top value ER5 machine can suffer problems with its rear drum brake, sometimes requiring a new wheel if the drum distorts.
