New Arai RX-7 helmet
Arai have launched their new RX-7 GP helmet this week. The RX-7 GP features several improvements aimed at making the lid quieter, safer and offering better ventilation.
The Arai helmets are all hand-made, with the outer shell made from a super complex woven fibre. The new RX-7 model features a stronger fibre `belt’ which is woven into the forehead section of the helmet, which is most likely to take an impact in accident, although every bike crash is different.
There’s an Air Wing design on the top of the RX-7. This has a five-way adjustment, so the rider can tweak the lid for minimum wind-buffetting, depending on speeds, or weather conditions. The wing also helps make the RX-7 a quieter helmet at higher speeds. There’s also a new set of intake and exhaust ports on the RX-7, so the helmet should de-mist faster in extreme weather, and remain cooler in hot conditions. A new chin spoiler is added to update the design and direct airflow away from the neck area – handy on colder mornings.
The cheek pads have been re-designed so that in the event of an accident the emergency services can remove them easily, thus making helmet removal far less likely to cause any extra injuries, or discomfort.
There’s no word on price as yet, but it seems likely that the new RX-7 GP will cost around £500 when it makes its debut at the NEC show later this year.
