S&S easy start camshafts

Starting a big S&S V-twin motor can put a strain on the beefiest of batteries. Why? Simple really, two heavy pistons, crankcase compression, plus lumpy camshafts absorb a fair bit of the electrical energy, before fuel and air ignites to help the engine get going and thus balance all the crazy forces at work inside itself. It’s a physics thing, you should have passed your GCSE science exams to understand the finer details.

But help is at hand for those S&S custom bike fans with batteries weakened by the sheer physical resistance of the big motors. These S&S easy start camshafts can be fitted, which feature a cam lobe that keeps the exhaust valve sightly open at cranking speed. Less pressure y’see. Nice.

The easy start cams work with chain or gear drive, with the chain drive motors simply requiring the new easy start cams to be slotted in. Those custom bike owners with gear-driven S&S motors will need a new gear drive assembly as well.

You can see a demo video at; www.sscycle.com/modules/feature/easystart, which will make things clear in a way that mere words cannot match. The S&S easy start cams cost 457 euros for UK based bikers.
