The NEC Bike Show

Supercross and Motocross is a big part of the 2009 Carole Nash International Motorcycle and Scooter Show.
As the excitement builds for the 2009 Carole Nash International Motorcycle and Scooter Show, Insidebikes is giving you the run-down on a show that promises to by very much about “getting down and dirty” at the NEC in Birmingham.
The line-up for the 2009 NEC Bike Show is nearing completion but already it’s clear to see that fans of off-road riding are going to be well catered for in Birmingham between November 26 and December 6.
One of the biggest attractions for those visitors heading to the NEC on either the first or second Saturday will be the opening rounds of the British Supercross Championship before moving on to Liverpool’s Echo Arena and the O2 in London later in the year.
British Supercross champion Carl Nunn and ex-Junior World Champion Matiss Karro will head an impressive line-up on both the 28th November and 5th December in what will become the centrepiece of the brand new Off Road Zone.
Supported by the official manufacturers and their off road race teams, the Off Road Zone is a new introduction to the NEC Bike Show to encourage participation in grass-roots motocross and supercross, with a particular focus on making the sport more accessible to younger riders.
Of course, the British Supercross Championship needs somewhere to race, which is why Hall 5 at the NEC is being transformed into the UK’s largest indoor supercross circuit.
And rather than keep the circuit empty for the entire duration of the bike show, aside from the BSC events at 6pm each Saturday, visitors to the motorcycle show will have the chance to ride the circuit for free. Renowned Motocross rider Barry Johnson and his Yamaha Off-Road Experience staff will instruct riders on the best techniques on this unique terrain in what is sure to be the best possible introduction to all-terrain riding.
Both Trials and Motocross News and Dirt Bike Rider will be on hand as official media partners to provide their own
Add that to the Suzuki Off Road zone that will be making a return to the NEC Bike Show in 2009 and it’s a safe bet that this is one area of the show that will be at the heart of the action.
Elsewhere in the NEC, the show is very much an opportunity for manufacturers to showcase what they’ll be bringing to the market in 2010, with the BMW, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha stands always hives of activity. KTM and Triumph will be there as well but perhaps the biggest interest will be on the Norton and Husqvarna stands.
Norton will be making an exclusive world launch of the 961 Commando and the Café Racer Commando in the city in which they were founded back in 1898 whilst Husqvarna, a manufacturer very much in keeping with the off-road theme, will be making a long overdue return to the bike show, having been absent for the past 12 years.
Of course, there’s another reason why nearly 135,000 people turned up at last year’s bike show to visit 270 exhibitors, and it’s the opportunity to pick up a bargain. With hundreds of independent and chain dealers running special offers throughout the duration of the NEC motorcycle show, there’s bound to be a bargain out there for everyone.
