Manchester Motorcycle Show 2010
The Manchester Motorcycle Show 2010 takes place on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th January 2010, reports Alastair Walker, who looks ahead to the action.
The show has outdoor motorcycle stunt riders Vertical Trix this year, which will be a big attraction for many fans who enjoy seeing riders performing unfeasible wheelies, stoppies and all kinds of other malarkey in the open air. Bad weather may affect the stunt show outside by the way, they may be talented but the Vertical Trixters don’t do bike dancing on ice. You can get a little glimpse of the Vertical Trix lifestyle by having a go on the Vertical Trix wheelie machine too.
Indoors you can see Steve Colley, renowned trials rider going through an amazing routine and the final performance from Heidi and Mikko, known as the Globeriders. If you haven’t seen two riders criss-crossing each other at 70mph inside a steel cage, then now is the time, as Heidi and Mikko plan to retire later in 2010.
There will plenty of new 2010 motorcycles on show of course, with a wide range of dealer support providing new bikes from Honda, Ducati, Triumph, Suzuki and many more brands. Star of the show is arguably the new BMW S1000RR, which will take centre stage on the Williams BMW stand. The 193bhp sportbike is being acclaimed at the real deal from the German bike maker, with a mix of comfort, grunty power and hi-tech handling making it a top sportbike for road riders.
Classic fans will be able to admire a range of British and Japanese machines from the past, plus Lambretta and Vespa scooters will be capturing the flavour of the 60s Mod era and the 80s Ska revival. Those who prefer extreme machines will be able to see Streetfighter and Custom bikes, which usually feature some the most interesting and well-crafted engineering in the world of biking.
The Manchester Show is always a good place for bargain hunting, whether you want a pair of gloves, or a trip of a lifetime with MCi Tours maybe. You can also get inspiration at the Nick Sanders cinema, where the globe-trotting maverick will be showcasing the best of his round the world record-breaking motorcycle rides.
Younger riders can also sample the `My first licence’ rider training zone, backed by Honda UK, where all clothing is provided and the bikers of tomorrow can get their first taste of two wheels in safety. There are bike instructors on hand to guide you around the indoor training circuit, which mirrors real-life junctions and city streets.
Don’t forget if you come along to GMEX, or Manchester Central as they call it now, by motorcycle, then parking is free.
Tickets cost £10 for adults, (£12 on the day) £5.00 for children or Seniors, if booked in advance. Call 0844 338 8000 for that money-saving deal.
