Brookes on pole at Silverstone
Josh Brookes scored his third pole position of the season on the brand new Silverstone Arena circuit this afternoon, to set the first British Superbike qualifying pole on the track.
In a session that saw a frantic end, Brookes gave himself the edge with a fastest time of 2m06.215 seconds, to fight off Michael Rutter for the privilege. Michael Laverty will line up third on the grid for the first of tomorrow’s races, with Brookes’ HM Plant Honda teammate Ryuichi Kiyonari fourth.
Loris Baz enjoyed a strong performance on his Motorpoint Yamaha machine to set the fifth fastest time, just ahead of tital contender Tommy Hill in sixth. Dan Linfoot headed the rest of the top ten riders in seventh, with Chris Walker, Simon Andrews and James Ellison in tow.
Commenting on his pole position, Brookes told the official BSB website: “I have been trying hard and I feel that I can run a better race pace compared to what we had at the World Superbike Championship round and I am feeling comfortable and looking forward to carry the momentum for the race. It’s game on as usual and tomorrow I want to win as always.”
Brookes set a dominant pace throughout the entire qualifying session, securing the fastest time in each of the three sessions. With the championship finale edging closer the Australian is keen to make his mark on the BSB championship, with the title first on his mind. However, with his main title rivals in close contact everyone will be keeping a close eye on the HM Plant Honda rider.
