Checa wins second Superpole of 2011

As the World Superbike Championship rolls into Britain for the second round of the 2011 season, Carlos Checa proves dominant again with another Superpole win.

Donington Park plays host to the second race weekend this year, and after stealing Superpole and a double victory last time out at Phillip Island, Checa has shown his true colours once again. After fighting off the attentions of his rivals, the Althea Racing star rocketed to the top spot in the final Superpole session, to set a quickest time of 1m28.009s.

With a point to prove after a promising season in 2010, local hero Leon Haslam recorded the second fastest time, and will start tomorrow’s first race side by side with Checa. Third place went the way of another Brit Tom Sykes, on his Kawasaki Racing Team Superbike, while Jakub Smrz will complete the front row of the grid in fourth place.

Just behind the front row will see Noriyuki Haga slot into fifth spot, with reigning WSB Champion Max Biaggi a very close sixth, with the duo keen to cause disruption to the front row of the grid. Echoing the front row, row two was completed by a duo of Brits, with Leon Camier and Jonathan Rea jumping up to the front of the grid.

Marco continued his good form in ninth place, with Troy Corser starting alongside him in 10th. Michel Fabrizio narrowly missed out on a top ten starting spot, however will still line up on the third row of the grid in 11th place, with Joan Lascorz just nextdoor.

With a lot of tough competition throughout the field Checa will have his work cut out for him, as he attempts to edge out a stronger lead in the 2011 champiosnhip standings.
