De Angelis considering 2010 options
Alex de Angelis has expressed he has not ruled out a switch from MotoGP to the World Superbike Championship for 2010.
The San Carlo Gresini Honda rider has considered a move to WSB, but only once all possibilities within the MotoGP series have been ruled out. With four rounds of the championship still remaining, de Angelis has already shown good pace throughout 2009, achieving a points finish in all but one race, in his second season with the team.
At this point in the season de Angelis is still without a ride for 2010, after San Carlo Gresini Honda announced the signing of Marco Melandri and Marco Simoncelli. The majority of teams have already confirmed their rider options for next season, however there are still a few to make announcements, giving de Angelis a glimmer of retaining a MotoGP ride for another year.
Despite the lacking number of rides available, de Angelis is resisting a move to Moto2, however has mentioned th idea of following various riders to the WSB series.
Commenting on the idea, de Angelis said: “”I’m trying to remain in MotoGP, or if not then I will go to Superbikes. For the moment I’m in contact with all the teams who have not officially finalised their rider line-ups for next season, so that means Scot Racing, Monster Yamaha Tech 3 and Pramac Racing.
“My aim is to find the best team, without preferences, though obviously if I ride a Honda machine I won’t be starting the learning process from scratch again as I’m accustomed to the bike.
“I’m sure that by next week there will be some movement and I would like to confirm my plans in Portugal. My intention is to ride in MotoGP but I have some very important Superbike offers.
“For now, I do not intend to ride in the Moto2 class and even though I have received some Moto2 offers there was nothing too concrete.” He added: “”I’m also in contact with a new team, FB Corse, who called me to see if I am available for next year, but we are still at a very early stage of contact with each other. We’ll see how everything works out from here.”
FB Corse have recently announced that they aim to contest the final round of the MotoGP at Valencia, competing with a self-penned machine.
