Easton achieves maiden pole
Hydrex Honda’s Stuart Easton secured his maiden pole position this afternoon at Oulton Park, ahead of the final round for the British Superbike Championship.
Easton had been towards the better end of the times throughout the entire qualifying session, battling in the final ten minutes for the prestigious pole spot his teammate, Tommy Hill and the already confirmed 2009 Champion, Leon Camier.
With Easton looking strong for pole, Hill was looking good to making it an all Hydrex Honda front row. However, as the final ten minute shootout was nearing an end, an impressive performance from the Airwaves Yamaha of Camier stole second. Karl Harris accompanied Camier’s strong performance, demoting Hill to fourth.
James Ellison, Camier’s teammate secured a fifth place grid start, while Josh Brookes will be starting sixth ahead of Michael Rutter, Ian Lowry, Sylvain Guintoli and John Laverty.
Commenting on his maiden BSB pole position, Easton said: “It is brilliant for me to finally get a pole position in, even if it has taken until the final round of the season. Me and my crew chief PJ had a list of boxes we wanted to tick which included the pole and the win and we have go there now, but I must admit I left it late in the year to get it! I did a few consistent laps in that session in the low 36s’ and I was feeling pretty confident but wasn’t sure whether I would be able to hold it. I can still get second from James and anything can happen; I really like the three race format so can’t wait!”
