Hill on top at Croft
Tommy Hill secured another Roll for Pole win at Croft this afternoon, to take top spot ahead of tomorrow’s first race.
As he strives to enhance his 2010 championship charge, Hill will be eager to make an impression, with his main title rivals starting somewhat further back.
After a qualifying session marred by incidents, Hill managed to edge out Michael Laverty as the session came to a close, as early pace setter Stuart Easton was forced down the order. Alongside Laverty and completing the front row of the grid for tomorrow’s first race, Michael Rutter will line up third, with James Ellison fourth, also securing his first front row start of the year.
Dan Linfoot heads the second row in fifth, with Simon Andrews keeping a close eye on him in sixth. Easton was muscled back to a seventh place start, with Loris Baz setting the eighth fastest time, despite crashing in the closing stages.
Peter Hickman made it through into the third session of qualifying for the first time this year to qualify ninth, with Ryuichi Kiyonari tenth, after crashing out in spectacular style on his first flying lap of the final session. Josh Brooks, Kiyonari’s HM Plant Honda teammate, was unable to get passed the second qualifying session, only managing a thirteenth quickest time.
It is set to be a thrilling double header tomorrow, as the championship counts down to the final stages.
