Rea wins Magny Cours Superpole

Jonathan Rea scored the World Superbike Superpole at Magny Cours this afternoon, with a new track best lap in the process.

As the penultimate round of the 2011 championship takes shape, Rea steered his Castrol Honda machine to pole position with a time of 1m37.490 seconds. As the weather conditions favoured the WSB arrival, second place went the way of Eugene Laverty, as championship leader Carlos Checa settle into third place.

As three different riders enjoyed a chance to sample the top spot in each Superpole session, fourth place in the final session saw Leon Camier secure a strong fourth place, ahead of Sylvain Guintoli and Tom Sykes. Leon Haslam was next in seventh place, ahead of championship challenger Marco Melandri in eighth place.

Noriyuki Haga and Joan Lascorz were the next riders to enjoy a spot within the top ten, with the pair securing the ninth and tenth fastest times, respectively. A grid of just eighteen riders will see the penultimate round get underway with two exciting races tomorrow.
