Stoner sends Pedrosa Get Well wishes
Casey Stoner has spoken out over his hopes that teammate Dani Pedrosa will not be severely affected by his latest injury, which could put an end to his 2011 title hopes.
The Spanish rider will today find out whether he will need to undergo surgery to fix his collarbone, an injury sustained in the French Grand Prix over the weekend, after coming into contact with fellow rider Marco Simoncelli.
Despite Stoner essentially profiting from Pedrosa dropping out of the race, the Honda rider has said that he would rather win points back by riding well, not from his teammates’ injuries.
He said: “It’s definitely not the way I want to take points back, Jorge had a crash in the warm-up and injured his finger, and that’s not going to be the best thing for him. Dani crashed in the race and broke his collarbone.”
Stoner expressed his sympathies for Pedrosa, who hasn’t had much luck when it comes to injuries and added: “We’ll see what happens in the future, but Dani’s so unlucky with these things,” he said.
“This shouldn’t happen. Already he’s had a problem with the shoulder this year, and now he has a problem with the other shoulder.
“It’s going to be tough for him to come back from. Luckily he has a bigger break [between races] than at other parts of the year to recover and be back quite quickly. But it’s going to be very tough for him.
“My condolences to him and hopefully he can come back quickly and try to be fast, because for the championship we all know he’s a big threat.”
Pedrosa dropped out of the race, with only 11 laps remaining, in a high speed crash, after Marco Simoncelli attempted to sneak past him. Simoncelli incurred a ride through penalty for his part in the race, since the race stewards considered the move to be an illegal manoeuvre.
