The aim of bike security is to make stealing your motorcycle as unattractive as possible to a thief. By ensuring your bike cannot be removed, or that the process of removal will require so much time that they are likely to be detected, thieves will be deterred and look for easier pickings. Here are some locks and disc locks on the market to help you secure your bike.
Possibly the most visible deterrent, chain or cable locks should always be secured to an immoveable object and should be threaded through the bike’s frame.
Mammoth Lock and Chain
This Thatcham-approved lock uses components and materials to deter even the most determined of thieves. It is heavy duty and its 1.8-metre length makes it ideal for securing to ground anchors or lamp posts.
Oxford Revolver Cable Lock
This cable lock is also Thatcham-approved and is strong, flexible and easy to use. It has a simple rotating lock head and is made with a core of hardened steel.
While disc locks are not the best form of security, they are a great deterrent, they stop your motorbike being wheeled away, and they are portable.
Abus Provogue 300
This model is easy to use and has a simple one-handed click mechanism. It is available in a range of colours and comes with a free carry case.
Abus Detecto RS2 7000
The RS2 7000 is the first to come with an integrated alarm system. Once the ‘snap n go’ system has been secured onto the disc with one hand, the alarm is automatically activated.
