What is it?
Advanced rider training aims to help you become the best rider you can possibly be. It is designed to improve your skills and create safer roads for everyone.
What are the benefits?
Advanced Training is all about taking the next step in your passion for riding. Perfect for both new-found lovers of motorcycles as well as old-hands, it refreshes your knowledge and raises your standard of riding to a new level.
Advanced Training gives you more confidence on the road, which in turn will make you a safer rider and greatly increase your enjoyment of your machine. You will feel better equipped to deal with busy roads, challenging weather conditions and country lanes, in terms of speed, position, gears and acceleration.
As well as providing you with the confidence to be in control, it can reassure friends and family, giving them peace of mind that you are riding to the best of your ability.
Having an Advanced Training qualification can improve your skills, which can sometimes reduce the cost of your motorcycle insurance. Advanced Training by a reputable company can cut your premiums by as much as 20%.
Who does it?
There are many companies that offer Advanced Training, but here are some of the most popular.
IAM offers an Advanced Training programme from only £139. This covers most of the expenses, although some local groups request a contribution towards fuel costs. The programme is designed around five phases of training: information, position, speed, gear and acceleration. As well as safety, they aim to boost your confidence.
With an aim to reducing road accidents, RoSPA have over 50 local groups. Their 4-day Advanced Riding course finishes with an Advanced Test on the last day, where you can achieve a bronze, silver or gold qualification. Joining a local group costs from £20 and you will meet a personal trainer who can help to tailor a course for you.
A police-led motorcycle programme, this is run by most of the forces throughout the UK. They strive to make riding more enjoyable by improving knowledge, skills and hazard awareness. Their BikeSafe workshops are designed to set riders up for their motorcycle training test from one of the above organisations.
