A rip-roaring return for the Munster 100 Cork Motorcycle Road Races

After a five-year hiatus, Munster 100 Cork Motorcycle Road Races returned to a riotous reception on 3-4 August as thousands of bikers revved up to witness two days of pulse-racing action on an all-new course.

Brought forward to avoid heavy rain, the Munster 100 Cork Motorcycle Road Races took road racing to a new level – the redesigned course at Killalough Cross combines sharp corners and long stretches, taking in Annacarton and Crush en route to give riders a real challenge.

There were plenty of white-knuckle thrills to keep the crowds entertained and hundreds of beautiful bikes to admire in between races too, as classic bikes were showcased around the track, making for a cracking weekend that won’t be forgotten any time soon.

Nail-biting bike action

The return of the road racing event attracted bike fans from across Ireland and further afield – Irish Ferries even offered a discount code for guests travelling from Britain! Lots of visitors camped out for the weekend or pitched their camper vans, keen to really make the most of the two days.

Practice sessions were scheduled to take place over the Saturday, followed by two races, but rain meant that qualifying was downgraded to untimed practice. Sunday was also rescheduled to reflect the weather but was nonetheless action-packed with road races, with events for 120s through to 1000c superbikes.

Top names in Irish racing turned out to take part, including Derek Sheils and Miko Sweeney, as well as Brian McCormack, who set a new record recently when he became the fastest Southern rider ever to lap the Isle of Man TT course.

The weekend saw Sheils and Sweeney battle it out for the top spot, with Sheils scooping a double Superbike win and Sweeney taking first place in the Supersport race, also taking the Supertwin crown.

Between races, spectators had the chance to mingle with their biking stars and snap some selfies in the paddock, or refuel at one of the many food and drink stalls set up especially for the weekend’s action.

Carole Nash at the Munster 100 Cork Motorcycle Road Races

The Carole Nash team was delighted to attend the Munster 100 Cork Motorcycle Road Races – we wouldn’t have missed this momentous return to road racing for the world. In fact, we even sponsored the final race of the weekend – the Carole Nash Grand Final!

Over the two days we also headlined the Carole Nash Rider of the Day award AND sponsored the Rider of the Race in the finale, too.

As if that wasn’t enough, the team gave out lots of goodie bags to the hundreds of guests who visited our tent in the paddock, and lots of riders walked away from our tent better informed on how to get the best deal on their insurance. One of our visitors even scooped a whopping €250 towards their bike or car insurance!

The return of the Munster 100 Cork Motorcycle Road Races was truly unmissable – we can’t wait for next year’s instalment!
