50-Mile Charity Ride Raises £3,800 For Sussex Hospices

A 50-mile motorbike ride took place on 21 June under the leadership of the 1066 Chapter of the Harley Owners Group. Seventy bikers took part in the event, the aim of which was to raise funds for the Friends of Sussex Hospices (FSH), the Sussex Express reported.

The enthusiasts managed to raise £3,850 for the charitable organisation. The key figures behind the event were Allan Kelly, advanced bike instructor at the TT Motorcycle School, and Fiona Aldridge, whose husband died from cancer in 2013.

The long-distance ride started at Newplace Park in Framfield, which was also the finish point. Afterwards motorcyclists were entertained by the highest mobile bungee jump in the world, with 20 of the bikers jumping from a height of 200 feet. Allan and Fiona also took part in the bungee jump.

Andy North was among the bungee-jumping braves but he went a step further: he stripped off his leather outfit and made the jump in his underpants. This led to an immediate donation of £150 from the sponsors.

The event was a huge success and the entire day was fun and exciting, said FSH chair Kathy Gore. She thanked Fiona, Allan, the 1066 Chapter of the Harley Owners Group and all attendees who helped organisers raise this great amount of money for the hospices.

Another fundraising event will hit the roads on 13 July in another part of the country. Bikers will gather at Willingham Woods in Lincolnshire and will take part in a two-and-a-half hour ride-out to raise funds for the Lincolnshire Emergency Blood Bike Service. Bikers will finish their trip with a barbecue at the Crown, West Street, Horncastle, the Market Rasen Mail reports.
