Arctic Circle Charity Ride Raises Funds For Children In Need

Four motorcyclists are taking their bikes on an epic trip of nearly 5,000 miles to the Arctic Circle and back again to help raise money for Children In Need.

The team will also be filming their adventures for a six-part television series called the Great Arctic Bike Off, which will be shown on the Community Channel in November.

Leading the group is management consultant and motorbike enthusiast Graham Hoskins, who has previously taken part in filmed bike rides in Russia, around the Mediterranean, and from Spain to the Gambia, the Grimsby Telegraph reported.

He is joined by cameraman Tom Woodrow, Martin Chick, and Mark Davies, who won a competition to take part in the bike ride.

The group set off on their two-week journey from Grimsby at the end of August. Their itinerary takes them through Germany, Denmark, Norway and up to Nordkapp, the northernmost point in Europe. On the return leg the team will ride through Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Germany and then back to the UK.

Speaking before the trip, Hoskins said that he expected cold to be the biggest challenge for the group.

“The route we are going on is only navigable in the summer, but it will still be cold,” he told the Grimsby Telegraph.

Temperatures were expected to range from five to one degree during the day and down to minus one at night, with the wind chill factor making it feel 10 degrees colder.
