Three bike enthusiasts will be raising money for Cancer Research by riding their classic bikes to Lerwick, the capital and main port of the Shetland Isles in Scotland, the Lancashire Telegraph has reported.
62 year-old Graham Lampkin, a keen trials biker and a member of the Red Rose Classic Motorcycle Club, will be riding on as many unsurfaced roads as possible to get to his destination. Lampkin will be joined by his two friends, Frank Anderton and Les Humphries.
Lampkin will be riding his modified 1959 Royal Enfield trials bike. Humphries owns a Triumph Tiger Cub that he built mainly from spares, and Anderton has a BSA B40. However, only one of them will join Lampkin on the actual ride, while the other will drive a van as a back-up.
During the winter, Lampkin made some modifications to his motorcycle, equipping it with a larger petrol tank and a more comfortable saddle.
Lampkin says that the ferryboat and accommodation on Shetland are already booked and the trio are planning to hit the road on 3 June from Watery Lane in Colne. They will spend four days on Shetland and will return by 13 June. The route in England has been planned and Lampkin says that he has been very busy speaking to the Forestry Commission in Scotland about using the forest tracks.
Arthur Lampkin, former professional motorcycle racer, endorsed the initiative and wished the guys good luck.
So far, Graham has raised over £1,100 for charity. If you would like to donate some money, visit the dedicated Lampy Goes To Lerwick website.
