This Friday, 11 April, two motorcyclists will be raising money for Diabetes UK by taking a trip to the four corners of Britain. Graham Munt from Middlewich will join Geoff Owens from Waverton, which is close to Chester, for the 2,500 mile road trip. Their journey will take them on some of the ‘twistiest’ biking roads in the country, the Middlewich Guardian reports.
Two years ago, Owens’ son was diagnosed with diabetes, which he said came as a huge shock for his entire family. The Diabetes UK charity takes its job very seriously and its research programme will support Geoff’s son and many other teenagers in Britain in managing their condition, Owens explains. Geoff believes that the least he can do is to take part in the 80-hour ride on his motorcycle to raise both money and awareness of this great charity.
The two bike enthusiasts will take off this Friday and anyone willing to support their Compass Ride can follow their trip on Twitter at #compassride or can visit the dedicated page on the Just Giving website to donate.
Earlier this week, 23-year-old James Laver from Hale competed in the Greater Manchester Marathon and managed to raise almost £1,500 for the Diabetes UK charity. Laver chose the charity because his mother’s best friend died unexpectedly at the age of 56 due to complications resulting from brittle diabetes.
