BMW Motorrad has reported record sales of motorcycles and maxi scooters in February, up 18.3% compared to the same month in 2013, the company said in a press release.
In February, the manufacturer said that it had sold 8,098 motorcycles and maxi scooters globally versus 6,847 in February 2013. These numbers make the month the fourth top selling February in a row in the 90-year history of BMW Motorrad. Moreover, January and February combined accounted for 13,536 vehicles sold, representing growth of 16% over the same period last year, when the number was 11,665 units.
After the very successful start of 2014, BMW achieved a significant increase in sales in February, with global demand being very satisfying, says Heiner Faust, director of sales and marketing at BMW Motorrad. BMW’s record-breaking sales in January were mostly attributed to the 2013 BMW R 1200 GS, which features the latest semi-water cooled boxer twin. The model is also BMW’s best-selling bike in 2013 and this trend is likely to continue, Faust added.
BMW Motorrad expects more success this year, as the Bavarian motorcycle manufacturer will release two new models – the R NineT and S1000 R. The C evolution electric-powered scooter will also be added to BMW’s product portfolio from May this year.
We have great expectations for this season, based on our customers’ positive feedback and due to the success of sales in January and February, Faust concluded.
