German tyre maker Continental Tyres has announced a global recall of 170,000 motorcycle tyres because of a condition that could potentially lead to air loss and separation.
Continental said that it was launching a “voluntary motorcycle tyre exchange programme” for its tyre size 120/70 ZR 17 and 120/70 R 17, including the ContiSportAttack, ContiSportAttack 2, ContiAttack SM, the soft, medium and endurance versions of the ContiRaceAttack Comp., and the ContiRoadAttack 2 GTW.
The manufacturer will replace any tyres included in the recall, regardless of their condition.
Continental sold these tyres for both OEM and replacement use between 2007 and 2014.
No accidents or injuries associated with the affected tyres have been reported. Continental said that it was undertaking the recall as a precautionary measure.
Motorcyclists who have any of these tyres should contact their local Continental distributor to arrange to have them exchanged.
