Easy Rider Bike Up For Auction Next Month

Fancy getting your hands on one of the most iconic motorbikes on the planet?

If so – and if you happen to have more than $1 million (£612,000) to spare – you could become the new owner of the Harley-Davidson ridden by Peter Fonda in the 1969 road movie, Easy Rider.

The customised ‘Captain America’ Harley-Davidson chopper, decorated with the American flag, was built especially for the film and was designed with input from Fonda. Until last year it was owned by the National Motorcycle Museum in Anamosa, Iowa.

It was bought by Michael Eisenberg, a businessman who used to run a Los Angeles motorcycle-themed restaurant with Peter Fonda and his Easy Rider co-star Dennis Hopper. However, since then he has had a change of heart about owning the famous motorbike.

“I always wanted to own it. But once it sunk in that I actually had it, then I realized how important it was,” Eisenberg explained, as quoted by the Associated Press.

“The public needs to see it. It’s that iconic. It needs to be on a podium,” he added.

The makers of Easy Rider created four motorcycles, but this is the only one known to have survived. If you want to see it in action, check out the film: it was used in the final crash scene.

The iconic motorcycle will go up for sale on 18 October. Auction house Profiles in History estimates that it will fetch $1 million to $1.2 million in the auction, which is being conducted online and at its galleries in Calabasas, California, the Associated Press reported.
