Final racing postponed but spirits high at TT

final racing postponed but spirits high at ttThe unfortunate news was announced this morning by the Clerk of the Course that the final day of racing in the Isle of Man TT would have to be delayed due to poor weather.

As rain and hail has battered huge swathes of the UK, it was an unsurprising yet disappointing announcement. Instead of the final racing day being Friday 8 June, all remaining racing will take place on Saturday 9 June. To combat any potential accidents, the Mountain section of the Isle of Man course will close at 9.30am on Saturday morning, followed by the remainder of the course at 10am.

Luckily there’s still plenty of action in store for the thousands of visitors who have flocked to the island, including the Monster Energy MotoGP parade lap and the hotly-anticipated PokerStars Senior TT.

This year has been particularly enthralling for fans of the TT races, not only due to some adverse conditions that have forced racing to be postponed, but thanks to the thrilling racing and potential winners that have emerged. The 2009 points system has proved to be useful for several competitors and, at least on paper, the title and prize money still seems to be up for grabs.

On what would’ve been the final day of the Isle of Man TT, the figures stand at a total of 74 points for John McGuiness; 67 for Bruce Anstey with third place rider Cameron Donald only one point away at 66; and fourth-placed Michael Dunlop with 51 points.

With the Senior TT still to play for tomorrow, it seems the winner – although likely to emerge from the top three – is still subject to intense competition. Despite poor weather, the crowds are still buzzing and, no doubt, looking forward to the final day of this popular racing event.
