Motorcyclist Ian Wood will undertake a Ducati Challenge and will ride 1,800 miles on his 1979 Ducati the “Duck” 900 GTS for Dementia UK, Wood announced in a blog post on the Just Giving charity website.

The 52-year-old will ride solo from John O’Groats village in Scotland to Land’s End in Cornwall, England. He will leave the Hill Cafe in Towcester on 17 April and will ride from Scotland’s northernmost point down to Land’s End and back to Towcester again.

The equivalent of the 1800-mile journey is two end-to-end trips and in order to complete the six-day trip, Wood is planning to ride around 300 miles every day.

Ian is participating in the Ducati Challenge to raise funds for Dementia UK, a charity group committed to improving the quality of life for those who suffer from the condition. Wood’s journey is in memory of his mother, who passed away last year following years of battle with dementia.

Wood says that he has to get used to the idea of spending approximately seven hours in the bike’s saddle each day. He hopes that the winter snow will be cleared by the time he starts the challenge.

Ian encourages everyone who can help him reach his goal of £5,000 to donate as much as they can to help people facing the difficult journey of fighting dementia. Medical carers and the families of those suffering from the illness need as much support, advice and knowledge of dementia as possible, he added.

People can donate through the Just Giving website.
