Motorcycles, music, mutts and more at Ireland BikeFest 2017
From one bank holiday to another! After the excitement of the May bank holiday, we bet you’re ready for another rip-roaring celebration of all things bike, in which case you should head to Ireland BikeFest 2017 on the Irish bank holiday weekend of June 2 to 5.
The largest free bike festival in the country, Ireland Bike Fest attracts up to 250,000 visitors each year, all keen to admire the belting bikes on display, enjoy the live music and browse the many trade and club stalls.
What’s on at Ireland Bike Fest 2017?
Ireland Bike Fest 2017 promises to be a fantastic family weekend with a carnival atmosphere that will delight even the youngest of visitors. Saturday is prime time to bring the kids along to witness a now famous part of the festival: the Novelty Dog Show!
From big and burly to tiny but tough, dogs of all shapes and sizes take part in the demonstrations between 3pm and 4pm. There are awards for the best dressed dogs, prettiest puppies and – everyone’s favourite – the waggiest tail! Want to enter? Register your motorcycle-mad mutt outside the Brehon Hotel on the day.
If you’re visiting on Sunday June 4, the annual BikeFest Killarney Parade will take place, treating visitors of all ages to a fest for the eyes as hundreds – if not thousands – of bikes go thundering by. Locals line the streets as the bikes process through the town to the cheers of the crowds, so make sure you’ve picked out the perfect vantage point before 11am!
Get on your bike for a guided ride-out led by experienced Celtic Thunder and Gaelic H.O.G. Chapter Members on Friday or Saturday and support Muscular Dystrophy Ireland to be in with the chance to win your very own Harley!
Eat, drink and be merry at Ireland Bike Fest 2017
The Bike Village is the place to be when you’re feeling a bit peckish, and if you’re craving a bit of succulent pig on a spit, you’re in luck, because that’s one of the many delicacies to discover here!
Food stalls galore will be serving up everything from crepes and doughnuts to curry, so if spit-roasted hog isn’t your thing, you’ll have plenty of other choices, too.
If you’re in the market for a cool beer, head to the Harley Bar, which is open from 11am until late each day. Located in the Bike Village, the Harley Bar is also a great meeting up point and one of three spots at the festival to enjoy live music.
Music over three stages
Ireland BikeFest 2017 promises a spectacular line-up of live music over three stages on Saturday and Sunday. Best of all, the concerts are completely free!
As well as the main stage, acts will be showcasing their talents on the outdoor stage and at the Harley Bar in the Bike Village.
Headlining the main stage on Saturday will be rock queens JOANovARC followed by tribute act Dep Leppard, while Sunday sees five-piece Thin Lizzy tribute band Live Lizzy take the spotlight, followed by a thrilling set from AC/DC tribute Hells Bells.
