Over the weekend, the British Superbike Championship (BSB) continued with the Silverstone Race in Northamptonshire. The exciting contest included big names like Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne, James Ellison, Josh Brookes and Carole Nash ambassador Leon Haslam. In what proved to be a competitive race, Brookes came out with the victory.
A lot of collisions happened on the track, including a multiple crash between Taylor Mackenzie, Dan Linfoot and Lee Jackson. Leon didn’t come out unscathed either, as he crashed in race one and two. In the final outing, he was hampered by a technical issue and his ZX-10RR needed to be pushed off the track.
However, Leon wasn’t disappointed by the result and he’s focusing on the next three rounds. He secured his place in the showdown and is now second overall in the BSB standings. The next race is taking place at Oulton Park, where Leon has performed well in the past.
“We came here with the objective of getting as many podium points as possible but we’ve come away with three crashes. However, in the grand scheme of things it’s the first time I’ve ridden the bike in the wet and it felt competitive. Similarly, in the dry on Sunday morning we were as quick as anyone else in race one so if I could have stayed on and not started from the eighth or ninth row, we probably could have had a good weekend.
“To have seven DNFs before round nine and still make the Showdown is still satisfying. We’ve now got to reset and focus on getting on the podium at Oulton, Assen and Brands – that’s what’s going to win the Championship.
“We’ve got a really good record at Oulton Park and last year I got the double at Assen. It was always going to come down to Brands so hopefully we can get back to winning ways and look forward to a good final battle in round 12.”
