The two BMW motorcycles ridden by Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman on their Long Way Round and Long Way Down television series will be part of an exhibition at the Riverside Museum of Transport in Glasgow. The exhibition will focus on two-wheel adventurers and will open from 10th March, the Scottish Express reported.
For the Long Way Round trip in 2004, McGregor and Boorman both rode a R1150GS motorbike through 18 countries, covering a total of 22,345 miles. The pair switched to R1200GS’s for the Long Way Down in 2007, where they travelled a total of 19,198 miles.
During the Long Way Round journey, the two motorcycle enthusiasts travelled from London to New York, while the Long Way Down trip took them from John O’Groats in Scotland all the way to South Africa.
The exhibition will also display the bicycle of Mark Beaumont, who travelled a record of 13,000 miles from Anchorage, Alaska, to the southern point of Argentina in 2009/2010.
The stories told through the New Adventurers exhibition are fascinating and definitely deserve to have a place at the Riverside museum, says Archie Graham, a spokesman for the museum. When looking at today’s explorers and their predecessors, it is clear that the desire to explore the world is timeless, he said. People have goals and the exhibition provides an inspiration that could help them realise how to achieve those goals, he concluded.
