MotoGP 2015: Round 3

motogp-2015-round-3.jpg

Hopes for a win at MotoGP are dashed for Marc Marquez, following a snap decision on the grid to switch from an extra-hard to a hard tyre on his Repsol Honda. An eventful day at Argentina’s Termas de Rio Hondo, Round 3 also saw a shakeup in the standings as Great Britain’s Cal Crutchlow made the remarkable jump from seventh to third position.

Luck and talent were on Cal Crutchlow’s side as he sped around Latin America’s infamous circuit in northern Argentina, beating Bradley Smith, Jorge Lorenzo, Andrea Iannone and last year’s winner Marquez to the finish line. Crutchlow made his impressive bid for the bronze at the last corner.

Fixing a hard tyre to Marquez’s bike proved a mistake, which became apparent with eight laps to go, as his competitors with extra-hard tyres raced ahead to the finish line. On the penultimate lap, Marquez was passed on the inside by Rossi and, in an attempt to get ahead, the champion driver clashed with Rossi’s rear tire and was flung to the ground.

Valentino Rossi and Andrea Dovizioso continue to dominate the competition, while Italy’s Andrea Iannone remains in fourth position, with Spain’s Jorge Lorenzo in fifth. The standings at the end of Round 3 are:
