Off to Germany for the ninth round of the 2015 MotoGP, with championship hopefuls lining up on the grid at Sachsenring, just outside of Chemnitz. A relatively new course, it first hosted the MotoGP in 1998, and this year was once more the site of all the high-speed thrills we’ve come to expect from this competition.
Jorge Lorenzo of Movistar Yamaha roared into the lead and looked set for a win, until reigning champion Marc Marquez came from behind: building on his second place finish in the last round, the Respol Honda rider continues his fight to overcome the poor form and bad luck that plagued him earlier in the season.
Claiming the win, Marquez was followed across the line by teammate Dani Pedrosa, who fought off advances from season-leader Valentino Rossi. Rossi claimed third ahead of teammate Lorenzo, who took fourth.
Marquez’s win sees him make a stronger claim on moving up the table, closing the gap between his fourth and Andrea Iannone’s third to just four points. Rossi and Lorenzo continue to dominate, and at the season’s mid-point – with nine rounds left to go – things could go either way.
