Around 1,200 military veterans will be among the participants in celebrations for Armed Forces Day in Stirling and dozens of them will form a motorcycle parade through the city on 28 June.

As part of the celebrations, displays by the Red Arrows aerobatic stunt team will be performed in the sky, with the Red Devils parachute regiment and the Royal Marine Band also joining the fun.

The event will be opened by the motorcycle ride, which will start from Stirling Castle and will pass through the Old Town. Some veterans and cadets will join the cavalcade at the Albert Halls before finishing at the Royal Parklands.

It is anticipated that the event will generate approximately £1 million for the local economy.

Among the machines that are expected to be seen at the parade are a Typhoon flight simulator and 26 vintage military vehicles, including a 1960s Saracen armoured personnel carrier and a Second World War Matchless motorbike.

Organisers and participants expect the event to be a “fabulous spectacle,” said Martin Gibson, executive chairman of Veterans Scotland. The organisation is very proud that so many veterans of all ages and from every part of the UK will be attending and taking part in this remarkable parade, the BBC reported.

Gibson commented that the organisation can’t wait to welcome people to take a look at the Veterans’ Village along with the vintage vehicles, which are one of the biggest attractions of the event.

The enthusiasm among military veterans is huge and it will be a fantastic event to see, added Mike Robbins, provost of Stirling.
