Technology has caught up with a human need, with the development of a new “breathable” motorcycle seat, the manufacturer claims.
Touratech, a supplier of aftermarket accessories for large touring and adventure motorcycles, says that the DriRide seat works with the rider’s gear to wick moisture away from the body.
The breathable seat technology was first developed by Touratech for riders in the Dakar Rally in an effort to improve rider comfort in hot conditions and over long distances. During the development the company experimented with different fabrics and base materials to find a solution that maximises moisture transfer away from the body. According to Touratech, the results were so good that it decided to make the technology available to the adventure touring community.
The design incorporates three layers which work together to keep the seat feeling comfortable on any ride.
Firstly, the Rain-Block waterproof seat fabric forces water droplets to bead up and roll away. Underneath that, Vapor-Flow membrane technology allows moisture vapour to pass through the riding gear, through the seat fabric and into the seat membrane where it’s expelled through the side of the seat. And Touratech’s Ergo-Response Long Distance Foam is designed to keep the rider upright, stable and evenly supported.
Priced from $559 (£343), DriRide breathable seats are available in two different height options and also in passenger models.
They fit a wide range of adventure touring bikes, including:
