From King of the Superbikes to King of the Jungle, Carl Fogarty’s career has been reinvented in recent years thanks to his triumphant appearance on the reality TV show I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! And with a new book and tour coming up in the next few months, looks set to return in 2018.
Foggy took four world titles and 59 race wins in an illustrious career that spanned the 1990s, ended only by serious injuries at the start of the 2000 season. Known as a focussed, cantankerous and often controversional racer during his career, he went on to run the ill-fated Foggy Petronas team before shuffling out of the limelight until his surprise TV comeback.
Reality TV revealed a newer, happier, Fogarty. Sure, he had retained his famously competitive nature but along with it came a new found inner happiness and caring nature that endeared him to the nation and won him a legion of new fans – many of whom had never even heard about superbike racing.
These days Foggy turns a living as an ambassador for Triumph and is currently out on the road promoting his new book, The World According to Foggy, which is officially released this Thursday (19 April).
While the book promises plenty of tales from the race track, it also tells the story of Foggy 2.0, the reinvented ‘celebrity’ who is clearly a more relaxed and comfortable man than the one who bossed the world of superbikes in the 1990s.
Foggy’s book tour kicked off in Scotland last weekend and ends at WH Smith in Manchester at the end of the month (see full dates below). The three-time TT winner also has six ‘An evening with…’ dates in May, taking in venues in Scarborough, Bradford, Hereford, Peterborough, Gateshead and Tadcaster.
