As a motorcycle rider, you’ll probably know that everyone rides for a different reason, and under different circumstances. Some people may ride with their partner as a passenger, some modify their bikes, and some keep them as they are. Whatever your circumstances, you’ll likely need some motorbike insurance add-ons to suit your needs.

Here are some add-ons you should consider when it comes to getting a motorbike insurance quote:

Pillion cover

If you ride with passengers on the back of your bike, it’s important that you have pillion cover as part of your policy. With pillion insurance, you’re covered to carry passengers with you on your bike, and the passenger has the same rights to claim as the rider(apart from claiming on damage to the bike itself).

If you don’t have pillion cover and need to make a claim, you could be liable for any passenger who’s injured as a result, and your insurance could be void too.

Breakdown cover

Does exactly what it says on the tin: With most breakdown cover add-ons, if you’re unfortunate enough to break down while you’re out on the road, you’ll get roadside assistance and recovery, vehicle repatriation, storage, onward travel and accommodation. These are things that are always worth having, as you never know what’s around the corner.

Insurance for modifications

This type of insurance covers you in case you decide to make any modifications to your bike. As you’re probably aware, any mods you make can have an impact on the value or performance of your motorcycle, and your insurer needs to know about these, or your policy could be invalid when trying to make a claim.

Helmets and leathers

Your motorbike insurance doesn’t just have to cover your bike, it can cover your riding gear too. From your helmet to your leathers, riding gear can be very expensive, so it’s definitely worth thinking about getting it covered.

Legal cover

In any circumstance where you have to make a legal claim, whether you’re  claiming against someone else or vice versa, some or all of your legal costs are accounted for.
