Round nine of 2015’s World Superbikes competition saw our title hopefuls head across the pond to California, for the Geico US Round at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. It was a fast-paced thrill ride as always, but ultimately did little to shake up the title standings.
It was a day of unexpected tragedies more than triumphs, particularly for Leon Haslam – a crash in race one that saw the Aprilia rider and Carole Nash ambassador fall out of the race was followed by a solid fifth-place finish in race two, sending Haslam into fourth place overall and bumping Chaz Davies up to third.
The competition continues to be dominated by Jonathan Rea – he remains a full 125 points ahead of second place Tom Sykes, despite his two third place finishes ranking as his worst of the season so far!
The podium spots for both races of the Geico US round saw Davies take first, Sykes take second and Rea finish third, cementing them and Haslam as an iron-clad top for for the tournament. Whether anyone can unseat Rea in the top spot remains to be seen!
