Yamaha has confirmed that a 400cc version of its X-MAX scooter will hit UK dealers in 2013 following the success of the 250cc models.
The company claims that putting a 400cc power plant inside its flagship mid-weight scooter will satisfy a demand from its European customers for “a model with increased engine performance, yet which also offers the same compact dimensions and sporty design of the current X-MAX concept.”
The 400cc version will deliver 31.5bhp and 25lb-ft of torque, compared with the 20bhp produced by the 250. That means that the scooter will comfortably hit 90mph, despite being 31kg heavier.
As well as uprated brakes, the 400 X-MAX will have revised bodywork, becoming the first Yamaha scooter to feature LED front position lights, LED tail lights and a sports instrument panel with trip computer.
Dealers will stock the 400 X-MAX from May, with a price tag of £5,399 OTR. Official accessories include a 50-litre topbox, high screen / sport screen, leg shields, passenger back rest and Akrapovic exhaust.
