Over 325,000 examples of Ducati’s iconic Monster have been built since its arrival in 1993 and, to celebrate, the Italian manufacturer has decided to create a limited run of 500 special edition Monsters, called the Monster 1200 25° Anniversario.

Based on the standard Monster 1200S, the Monster 1200 25° Anniversario comes loaded with extras, as well as an Italian tricolore paint scheme inspired by the 2008 Monster S4RS Testastretta Tricolore.

As well as the red, white and green livery, the anniversary edition features a gold coloured frame and matching forged aluminium Marchesini wheels, an Öhlins steering damper and numerous machined from solid parts including the mirrors, fuel cap and handlebar end weights. There’s also carbon fibre mudguards front and rear, as well as a heatshield around the exhaust. A nose cone and bespoke detailing such as the exclusive grips, embroidered seat and numbered plaque on the frame add to the £17,390 model’s distinctiveness. There’s also a unique 25° Anniversario bike cover to keep this Monster nicely tucked up when not on the road.

While the original Monster M900 pumped out just 80bhp from its air-cooled two valve motor, the 25° Anniversario delivers 147bhp from its 1198cc liquid-cooled unit. As you’d expect from a £17k motorcycle, the suspension components are all from the top drawer, with Swedish specialists Öhlins providing the 48mm upside down forks as well as the rear shock absorber – all fully adjustable, of course. Stopping power comes from Brembo, most specifically M50 monoblock calipers mated to twin 330mm discs up front.

As with the standard version upon which it is based, Ducati’s impressive electronic package features three different settings (Sport, Touring and Urban), and an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) which supplies information to the Bosch cornering ABS and Ducati Wheelie Control systems. It’s also got the well proven traction control system and Ducati quickshifter, which allows clutchless changes both up and down the gearbox.

Ducat special editions always prove popular and although delivery of the Monster 25° Anniversario won’t be until later in the year (no exact dates have been announced yet) there’s a fair chance your local Ducati dealer will happily take a deposit to secure one of the 500 being made.
