Italian company GP Design have pulled the covers off a limited-edition custom Ducati, that’s based around the Panigale V4S superbike. With just 10 being built and a price tag of £80k, the V4 Penta (which means five in Italian) boasts 215hp, custom built, spoked wheels and specially crafted ‘copper skin’ covering the tanks and body panels and custom-built single seat unit.
The man behind the bike is Luca Pozzato and he’s tried to make the machine more than just a stripped back streetfighter. Suspension specialists FG Racing were brought in to craft the girder front end, which is hewn from a single billet of aluminium. The stunning looking wide spoke alloy wheels come from Jonich SX, while the clip-ons, indicators, footpegs and some of the other trinkets have been supplied by motorcycle jewellery maker Rizoma.
While the bike isn’t an official Ducati creation, it’s not inconceivable that the factory has had a hand in the creation of the machine. With whispers of a naked V4 doing the rounds at the recent EICMA show in Milan, a non-official bike like this allows the factory to gauge any potential interest in a future model, while distancing them from any negative feedback – not that we can see much wrong with the look of this!

If anything, an official Ducati version will more than likely be detuned slightly and softened up for the mass market. While the idea of an unneutered 215hp naked bike seems like a really good idea, in the real world it would quickly lose its appeal to most riders.
The V4 Penta isn’t the only 200+ bhp naked bike to come out of Italy recently. Back in November MV Agusta revealed the Brutale 1000 Serie Oro, a bonkers naked with a claimed 212hp and 180mph potential. Now that would make for an interesting drag race!
It’s hard to imagine that Ducati bosses are not considering an unfaired Panigale at some stage, as litre-plus streetfighters are proving increasing popular these days, with models like the V4 Aprilia Tuono, BMW S1000R and Yamaha MT-10 often outselling the race replicas upon which they are based.
