Honda’s new 2018 CB1000R offers a new take on the super naked class with a 143.5bhp Fireblade-derived motor, and styling that Honda are calling Neo Sports Café.
We’re on the way to ride the new super naked with the first group of European journalists at the world press launch in Spain. Honda have promised we’ll get decent mileage on the road, and even a few guided laps of the super-fast Ascari race track. We’ll bring you more on @insidebikes social media channels over the next few days, and a full report on this website.
Like the new CB125R we tested last month, and the forthcoming CB300R, the new CB1000R has a unique style which sits somewhere between modern and retro. It’s a radical looking bike, but first impressions after spending some time with the bike at the Motorcycle Live Show is that the styling is bang on for the audience. The brushed aluminium finish along with a colour TFT screen and LED front and rear lights, means the CB1000R delivers a really high-quality feel.
The bike has a new Fireblade-based motor claimed to deliver 16% more power than the outgoing bike, and offering some 5% more torque in the all-important mid-range. It’s designed to deliver its power curve lower down than the screaming Fireblade motor the bike is based on, with lower gearing to deliver rapid acceleration in all of the three riding modes.
The bike has a new steel chassis fitted with Showa suspension, and a longer wheelbase than the Fireblade for added stability, and to suit the retro cool nature of the bike. It weighs in at 212kg wet.
More when we get to the CB1000R riding launch later today.
