Inside Bikes

Got a question

The May bank holiday’s nearly here, weather’s going to get warmer, skies will be bluer, and Margate will be busier – with bikers!

Why, we hear you ask? Well, because bank holiday Monday 25 May sees the return of the annual Ace Cafe Margate Meltdown.

Now in its 8th year, the Margate Meltdown is the most recent addition to Ace Cafe London’s already packed calendar of free-to-attend events and ride-outs – and this one is sponsored by Carole Nash!

The 100-mile Meltdown kicks-off at 10.30am, with the convoy leaving London and heading down to the ever-popular Kent seaside resort of Margate, via the A406, A13, M25, A2, M2 and A299, all the way to fantastic Margate seafront and (even more fantastic) beach.

The seafront at Margate, along with the harbour, is given over to bikes, scooters, trikes and the like, so feel free to wander around and have a nosey at some of the mean machines on display. There are also dozens of stalls and stands selling the latest biking kit, gadgets and gear. Throughout the day there’s entertainment to keep the whole family occupied, including live music on stage from noon and plenty of rockin’ rockabilly tunes from Ace Cafe legend DJ Bill Guntrip.

As main sponsors of the ride-out, the Carole Nash Crew will be there in full effect. We’ll be providing money insurance quotes on our stand that could save you money, we are also handing out goody bags and balloons and, hopefully, posing for a few selfies in the sun.

We’ll also be running our ever-popular free prize draw to win £250 off your bike insurance – all you have to do is simply visit our stand and get a member of the crew to enter you into the draw.

As usual with Ace Cafe London, there’s a big emphasis on charity for this year’s do, with The Royal British Legion Riders Branch being the main beneficiaries.

Margate, of course, has a long heritage of biking and scootering, not least the Mods and Rockers feuds of the 60s and 70s. In fact, the week after the Meltdown, on Saturday 2 June, Margate Museum is launching an awesome exhibition called "In Their Words: Mods, Rockers and Margate". Running until 9th September, it sounds like it might be worth a trip in itself.

So, get your sunglasses ready for the FREE Ace Cafe London Margate Meltdown, Saturday 25 May, leaving Ace Cafe at 10.30am sharp!
