The first warm weather of the year timed its appearance to perfection at the weekend, just in time for the 17th annual Ace Café Southend Shakedown.
And what a corker it was! Southend is buzzing at the best of times, but throw in some sunshine, a few thousand charity-minded bikers (and their marvellous machines) and scores of biking stalls stretching for miles along the seafront, and it's what bank holidays were made for!
There were bikes parked up as far as the eye could see, from shimmering low-riders and vintage classics, to titanic trikes and custom choppers. A number of manufacturers were in attendance, with the enormous Kawasaki stand proving a particular hit.
Dozens of stalls were on hand selling the latest biking gear and branded merchandise. And, of course, the Carole Nash Crew were out in full force, handing out balloons and goodie bags, providing on the spot quotes to deal-hungry bikers, answering their questions on our new Rider Cover*, and signing up eager customers for our free £250 prize draw (which we'll be announcing the winner of shortly!).
If it had sold tickets, the event would have been totally sold out. As it was, the Ace Café Southend Shakedown was so popular with the sun-starved bank holiday crowds that some people even had to be turned away!
As usual, a percentage of takings from the event will be donated to children's charities, so the bumper turn out should mean more donations for good causes.
Let's hope the sun joins us again at next year's Southend Shakedown – we've already put our sunhats in a safe place so we're ready to go!
