Another glorious sunny bank holiday down on the south coast saw over 40,000 bikers turn out for the Bike 1066 spring opener in Hastings, East Sussex – probably the UK’s largest free to attend biking event.
That’s 40,000 bikers, plus the Carole Nash Crew, of course, who are never ones to miss a bike show. Especially one near a beach!
The main event, the May Day rideout on bank holiday Monday, was a huge success, which is fitting for one of the oldest rideouts in the country, at an impressive 37 years old. It left the start at Locksbottom pretty much on time, reaching the seafront at Hastings a couple of hours later.
Not so many mods and rockers these days, but plenty of colour, noise and fun as the cacophonous cavalcade wound its way through the sylvan Sussex countryside.
Crowds lined the route in many places, with plenty of waving and cheering as the bikes came past.
Hastings itself, both seafront and town, were jam-packed with more than 60 stands, stall and exhibitors, plus thousands more bikes and bike fans, many of whom were dressed in green to celebrate the coming (fingers crossed!) of summer.
On the Carole Nash stand, the Carole Nash Crew were busy handing out some fantastic Carole Nash goodies, like balloons and goodies bags, posing for selfies and chatting to the crowds.
The £250 free prize draw giveaway also proved to be popular, and the great value on-the-spot insurance quotes the Crew were providing brought many a smile to people’s faces when they realised how much they could save on their bike insurance.
Fittingly, the big screens were another big attraction, drawing in the crowds to watch the Superbike racing live from Oulton Park, and the town centre was awash with music and biker-friendly entertainment, as many of the pubs had put on special events and promotions for the occasion.
The day wound down towards 5pm, and the crowds headed home. It was a long way back to Carole Nash HQ for the Carole Nash Crew, but the journey was well worth it for such a fantastic event.
