They don’t do things by halves in Peterborough! The MCN Festival of Motorcycling 2015 may have been a brand new event in its very first year, but it’s safe to say it blew the socks off all those who attended. Not just the socks, in fact. Boots and helmets too!
Held at the East of England Showground in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, during the weekend of 16-17 May, there were several massive tents packed with over 150 stands of biker gear to peruse and purchase in the retail zone. And just as well, too, given the thousands of attendees who thronged the venue.
Pretty much all the major manufacturers were at the show, a clear sign of the credibility that the MCN brand brings to an event, even a brand new one. Names like Triumph, Victory, Suzuki, Aprilia, Harley Davidson, Kawasaki, Yamaha and Indian had the crowds queueing to touch the metal of their latest – and classic – machines. Plus a ‘big bike’ stand in the main arena that lived up to its name with some classic Hogs and custom bikes to get the juices flowing.
The Carole Nash Crew were kept busy all weekend, handing out balloons and goodie bags, along with on the spot insurance quotes. We were also running our regular £250 free prize giveaway that basically gives you free bike insurance for a year.
Part of MCN’s 60th birthday celebrations, the event saw a packed programme of racing, stunts and displays, including dirt track racing, motoXchange extreme enduro sprint and the Yamaha stunt show, together with more than 100 motorbikes for visitors to ride.
Over in the Live Action Arena, meanwhile, legendary GP racer Kevin Schwantz and his US team battled it out against a UK team led by David Knight – an enduro icon – in a reborn classic, the Transatlantic Trophy. An unforgettable opportunity to see two biking legends in action, Knight and his teammates finally emerged victorious after two days of races.
Wondering if he’ll back next year to defend his title? After the success of this year’s event, we certainly are too!
